Bomb Attack On Spanish Princess’ Home

A molotov cocktail was thrown at the Barcelona home of Spain’s Infanta Cristina on Saturday. Police say they do not know of a motive, but a suspect has been detained. infanta-cristina

The unidentified man was alleged to have thrown the device into the grounds of the property in the upscale Pedralbes district of Barcelona in the early hours of Saturday and then fled by car, police said in a statement.

The attack caused only minor damage.

Infanta Cristina – the King’s youngest daughter – and her husband Inaki Urdangarin, and their four young children were not home at the time.

Media suspect that radical Catalan separatists, who view the Spanish royal family as occupiers, were responsible for the attack. As recently as Thursday – Catalan national day – masked youths burned Spanish flags and pictures of the royal family in the city.

Crown Princess Victoria Praises Paralympics

The future Queen of Sweden has nothing but good words for the athletes at this year’s Paralympics. cp-victoria

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Crown Princess Victoria said, “Just the fact that so many athletes have performed beyond their capacity and beyond what everyone expected them to do is wonderful.”

Victoria, who runs a charity fund that supports the disabled, continued, “”They are wonderful role models and extremely inspiring. It’s amazing to know how much they have been practicing in order to come here in the first place.”

“It’s everyone’s right to have a decent life and to fulfil themselves and see what they like to do. It’s so much more expensive for society not to do that.”

In addition to the Paralympics, Victoria was asked about the possibility of marrying her boyfriend of six years, gym owner Daniel Westling.

She responded that she is still “hoping for the day” when she can announce her engagement.

Victoria told the Stockhom tabloid Expressen she “understood” the interest, adding that she believed “it was good that matters are discussed. But I hope people will trust my judgement concerning the day”

Prince William To Train As Rescue Pilot

Prince William is to train to become a rescue pilot with the RAF Search and Rescue Force, Clarence House announced today. Britain Prince William

William said he wanted to “serve operationally” and joining the unit will allow him to fulfill this ambition.

The royal heir said he wanted to build on his experience “especially because, for good reasons, I was not able to deploy to Afghanistan this year”.

He added, “It has been a real privilege to have spent the past year understanding and experiencing all aspects of the British Armed Forces.

“I now want to build on the experience and training I have received to serve operationally.”

William trained with the Royal Air Force earlier this year, and earned his wings in April.

Today’s announcement contradicts earlier reports that Prince William will be ending his stint with the British military, and begin working as a full time royal next year.

There were even reports of an internship with the UK government and expanding his charity roles.

But it seems the Prince has decided to expanding instead on his military experience. He will begin an 18 month training period, flying Sea King helicopters. He will be attached to the air search and rescue team for a minimum 30 month period which means he will be at least 31 before he will even consider returning to civilian life.

In the meantime, Prince William will be spending time with the military’s special forces – the first member of the British royal family to do so.
