Russian President Dmitri Medvedev is on a two day state visit of Spain. He is there to strengthen diplomatic and business ties with the country, and sign Strategic Association declaration and several accords with the Spanish government.
Medvedev, along with his wife Svetlana, was greeted by Spanish King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia. They later watched a welcoming military parade from the El Pardo Palace.
Medvedev was also awarded the keys to Madrid by the King, and visited the Queen Sofia Museum. There, the first meeting of the Spain-Russia Cooperation Foundation forum took place, with the participation of representatives from 25 Russian companies.
It is expected that a state dinner would be held Monday evening in honor of the Russina president and first lady.
Tuesday will see President Medvedev continue to promote Russia through the signing of business and political deals.
