Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip & Emma Pernald Split

After months of rumors, the long time girlfriend of Swedish Prince Carl Philip confirmed that yes, she and the prince have split.carl-phillip-emma

Emma Pernald made the announcement at Sweden’s tabloid, Expressen.

“We have chosen to take a break. It is a joint decision,” she said.

“Why and other things I will not comment. It is in all cases a joint decision.”

The couple would’ve celebrated their 10th year as an item this August.

German tabloids originally reported the split back in October. But the couple tried their best to deny the rumors, including attending a wedding together.

It is said the decision to go their own ways came on Sunday.

The news comes one week after Carl Philip’s older sister, Crown Princess Victoria announced her engagement to her longtime beau, Daniel Westling.

It was expected the Prince and Emma would have been next to announced their upcoming nuptials.

But neither were ready for the major step.

“They have an enormous amount of love in their relationship,” a source told Expressen. “What they have after ten years, both are extremely sorry to have to do this.”

“The prince has told it to his entire family. Everyone was extremely sad. In particular, Victoria and Daniel took it very hard,” continued the Expressen source.

But there may be hope for a reunion, and possibly marriage.

“Both realize that the only way to save a marriage is to be apart for a while, “says the Expressen source.

“Emma is not just Carl Philips girlfriend. She is also, and will always be, a super friend to Victoria and Madeleine.”

“This is just so sad.”

Danish Royals Cut Back on Household

Even royals are being hit by the global financial crisis. danish-royals

According to the Danish media, the Crown Princely family had to let go of five members of their household staff to save up.

Those members included two cleaners, two liveried footmen and an administrative worker.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary receive $4.5 million annually from the Government. In 2007 the prince spent about $2.5 million on employees.

Australian-born Mary may adjust easily to a reduced household, since she lived a normal, financially average life before becoming a Princess.

With no light at the end of tunnel so far in the global recession, you could expect other royals to cut back in some way.
