Norway’s Crown Princely Couple Visit Mexico

Arriving late on Sunday, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit were fresh and ready Monday morning for the start of their four day visit to Mexico. norway-mexico

The royal couple first laid a wreath at the national monument of Child Heroes.

Haakon and Mette Marit then moved on the Frida Kahlo Museum, where they took a look at some of the great Mexican painter’s works.

Finally, in the afternoon, they were officialy received by President Felipe Calderon. The couple were unable to do so in the morning due to some scheduling conflicts.

Later in the afternoon, Crown Prince Haakon opened an exhibition of 120 pictures from Norwegian nature and society. The images were placed along a fence at a park near the city’s main street, where around a million people pass daily. The images were in place before the weekend, and Sunday, there were many who stopped and looked at the pictures to present Norway.

Tuesday, the Prince and Princess will attend a seminar for Mexican and Norwegian business leaders.

Wednesday, they will fly south to the city of Veracruz, where there will be more business and government meetings.

Most of these meetings have to do with oil and gas sectors.

Jordanian King Urges Peace Talks During Portuguese Visit

King Abdullah II said there “no excuse” for a delay in Middle East peace talks while on a state visit to Portugal Monday. abdullah-jordan

The Jordanian King went on to say, ”We will all work together, (the) United States, European Union, Arab countries, so that nobody use(s) that as an excuse,” he said, following talks with Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva.

Abdullah voiced his concerns that the formation of a new Israeli government will be used as an excuse to put off the peace talks.

He said this after meeting with Morocco’s King Mohammed VI Sunday, where the two monarchs discussed ways to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The King had urged rival Palestinians groups to work together and cease anymore Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories.

His remarks came as Israeli prime minister designate Benjamin Netanyahu took the first step toward forming a right-wing government by inking a coalition deal with the Yisrael Beitenu party of Avigdor Lieberman.

A controversial person slammed as a “racist” by critics, Lieberman is due to become the foreign minister in the new government.

In Brussels Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minster Ahmad Abul Gheit also expressed concern the peace process might flag under a right-wing government in Israel.
