The creme de la creme of Hollywood was out Thursday night to celebrate the opening of Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece’s childrens boutique. It is the latest opening for the London born royal’s line of children’s clothing.
Such celebrities as Sharon Stone and Minnie Driver turned up for the opening.
“I’m a huge fan of Marie-Chantal’s store in Westbourne Grove,” said Minnie Driver. “I bought lots of things there for [her son] Henry.”
The Princess, who is married to Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, began designing clothes in 2001 after she became frustrated with finding clothes for her five children.
She soon turned to opening stores. Already she has one in New York and another in London, which opened late last year.
Marie-Chantal’s kids are the inspiration to her clothing line.
“My daughter helped me with this detail – the polka dots – because she’s a very girly girl,” she explained, pointing to the pattern on one of the blouses in the girls’ collection.
She is also particularly proud of her new boys line. “I put a lot of attention into (it),” the Princess revealed. “It’s very much my pride and joy because I have my four boys… It’s made of very beautiful fabrics… very neat and tidy – just the way I like to dress my children.”

The grandson of the last king of Italy announced Tuesday he will head a candidate list of the Christian Democratic party in the June European elections.
“I have been in exile for 31 years and I know Europe well. I speak five languages,” Emmanuel Filiberto of Savoy reportedly said during the press conference.
The Prince was referring to Italy’s ban on male members of the ex-royal family from entering Italy until 2002.
“I know half of the current heads of state personally, and the other half I’m related to,” he added, stressing that he would be faithful to the Italian Republic and its constitution.
“I want to make myself useful to my country. The UDC is a party of the centre — far removed from the extreme left and right — with which I share the same Christian values on family and life,” he said.
The UDC, a small Christian democratic party, announced yesterday that the prince would stand in north-west Italy, the origin of Italy’s royal Savoy family.
“Emanuele Filiberto will be a big surprise to Italian and European politics,” said UDC leader Lorenzo Cesa. “He is an extraordinary person and very capable. We are convinced that he will go to Brussels to defend values close to our hearts: the Christian identity and family,” he continued.
Born in Geneva 36 years ago, Emmanuel Filiberto has been working his way into the hearts of the Italian people. Earlier this month, he won Italy’s version of “Dancing With The Stars.”
Last year, he ran for Italian parliament as a member of the “Values and Future” movement, but won only 0.4 percent of the vote.
The Prince is also the latest member of a deposed royal family to get involved in the politics of the country that banned them. In 2001, the former King of Bulgaria became prime minister of his former kingdom.
A few weeks ago, the son in law to the exiled King of Romania announced he will run for the country’s presidency.
The Kings of Jordan and Saudi Arabia – both named King Abdullah – met in Khobar to go over the Mideast peace process.
Their talks come days after King Abdullah II of Jordan pressured the United States to get more involved in addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The King wants President Obama to make his intentions clear following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in May.
“But if, right after that visit, there’s not a clear understanding of how America is going to weigh in on these problems, then I think the goodwill (towards) the United States will disappear,” he warned in a U.S. interview.
“In the next 18 months, if we don’t move the process forward … there will be another conflict between Israel and another protagonist,” he added.
President Obama has said he supports a two-state solution for the Israelis and Palestinians.
It was supposed to be a national holiday honoring Queen Beatrix, but instead it turned into a day of tragedy.
Five people were killed and 12 others were hurt when a car plowed into a crowd watching a parade of the Dutch royal family in the city of Apeldoorn.
A small black car was travelling at high speed towards the open topped bus carrying the royal family, already dented from hitting spectators.
Witnesses say people were thrown into the air as the car went through a six feet deep crowd. After speeding past the bus, it then hit a stone monument.
It it not clear how the car managed to get through the parade, since the area was closed off by police hours before.
The driver was injured with a bleeding forehead and was taken to the hospital.
It has been reported that the driver recently lost his job and was set to be evicted from his home. Police say the 38 year old man has no history of mental illness or criminal behavior.
He did however have a map of the royal family’s route in the parade.
“The man said that his action was aimed at the royal family,” said prosecutor Ludo Goossens.
No Dutch royal was hurt in the crash, but they did see it occur.
Dutch television showed footage of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Crown Princess Maxima standing at their seats in the bus’s high open platform and watching with surprise. Maxima held her hand over her mouth in apparent horror.
Apeldoorn Mayor Fred de Graaf said all festivities were being canceled. “The scare and the images that the family has seen are reason to break off the official program,” he said. Holiday programs also were called off in the port city of Rotterdam, and more were likely to be canceled around the country.
Journalist Peter von de Vorst told RTL television that the bizarre incident was like watching a horrible movie.
“It was a really nice day. Then you hear a bang. Everyone looks up and you see people indeed flying through the air. This must be a joke or a strange prank. Then suddenly panic, and you realize that something really terrible has happened,” he said.
A visibly shaken Queen Beatrix extended her sympathies to the victims in a brief nationally televised address. “What began as a great day has ended in a terrible tragedy that has shocked us all deeply,” she said.
Jordan’s Queen was one of many activists at an Amman sit-in to express the rejection of violence against children.
A longtime advocate for children’s rights, Queen Rania’s presence sent a loud message to those who choose to abuse the young.
The reason for this sit in was when local newspaper reported two 5 year olds, named Yazen and Qusy, died as a result of abuse from their family.
The Queen lit a candle in remembrance of the two children, and wrote a message on a poster.
King Abdullah II and Queen Rania both helped with the early stages of the building of a tourism resort, the first of its kind in Northern Jordan.
The two monarchs laid a foundation stone in the Dibben Forest, Jerash Governate for the Munya Woodland Resort and Spa Company, which costs JD 50 million.
It is hoped Munya will draw tourism to Jordan, which has a struggling economy.
Once completed, it would have convention halls, chalets, entertainment facilities and therapeutic centres, as well as a 40-room lodge.
Munya is also intended to protect Dibben Forest and and it would be an environmentally friendly resort.
After spending two days in Italy, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, traveled north to Berlin for another official visit.
The couple were greeted by German President Horst Koehler and his wife, Eva Luise. After a photo-op, the foursome went inside for a luncheon.
Koehler praised the Prince of Wales for his efforts to integrate people of different backgrounds and cultures.
Charles did something similar when he went to a football game in Berlin’s multicultural district of Kreuzberg. He and Camilla were welcomed by hundreds of schoolchildren, and watched a game between priests and imams.
The royal couple later went to the British embassy for a seminar on integrating socially disadvantaged people.
In addition to the cultural issues, Prince Charles’ other topic of interest, the environment, was not too far away from him during this visit. President Koehler praised him for his efforts to tackle climate change, and in the evening, the Prince will receive an award for his at a ceremony in Berlin’s German Historical Museum.
Charles and Camilla are also going to tour a couple of Berlin museums during their stay.
They had hoped to walk about Brandenburg Gate, but that was cancelled due to security issues.
Royalty fever in the United States is going to be high pitch next month!
That is because Prince Harry, the youngest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, is going to be making his first official trip here.
The third in the line to the British throne will be taking part in a New York polo match and will be doing a couple of engagements. One of them likely would be a visit to Ground Zero, site of the 9/11 attacks.
The polo match will be a fund raiser for his Sentebale charity, which helps children in the African kingdom of Lesotho.
The charity exhibition match will take place at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic on New York’s historic Governors Island on May 30th.
Prince Harry has been to the United States before, but only for private trips to Disney World and Colorado as a boy.
Given Harry’s enormous popularity with women in the States, and because he is apparently single these days, it is possible he would receive the same celebrity treatment his brother, Prince William got during a visit to Canada in 1998. There, young girls were screaming at the mere sight of the Prince.
One could only expect the same thing for Harry!
As patron of the Danish Cancer Association/Society, it is up to Crown Princess Mary to promote to Danes a healthy lifestyle to prevent any form of cancer.
Tuesday saw her at the Technological Institure in Tastrup where the Association promoted skin cancer awareness as summer approaches.
The campaign “Turn Down the Sun Between 12 & 15″, is the third time the Crown Princess got involved in such a campaign. It urges Danes to protect themselves from the sun with, among other things, clothes.
The campaign’s kickoff included a fashion show that had attire which have UV rays protection, such as bikinis and sleeveless dresses.
“If the Danes want to stay long hours outside in the sun, where it may be difficult with sunscreen or shade, arises the need for clothes that have a guaranteed UV protective effect. We see it already with the UV suits, as many children get on if they are on the beach, “says Anja Philip, who heads the Cancer Society.
The son of Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul-Aziz said his father is “in excellent health” and should return to Saudi Arabia.
Crown Prince Sultan had surgery in New York City back in February and has been recuperating ever since.
The official SPA news agency reported as Sultan’s son, Prince Turki bin Sultan as saying so, but he did not say when his father would return to the oil rich kingdom.
Prince Turki is an assistant information minister.
Crown Prince Sultan, who is believed to be 84 years old, has had a series of health problems over the years. That includes a cyst being removed in 2003.
In March, King Abdullah appointed Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz as second deputy prime minister, a promotion that would normally place him second in line to the throne. This means he will run the kingdom when the monarch and crown prince are away.
