Spain’s Crown Princely couple spoke out on increasing lack of privacy for their family during a meeting with European journalists Tuesday.
The couple, in particular Crown Princess Letizia, explained how the use of new technology has taken away chances for her and Crown Prince Felipe and their young daughters to be a normal family.
The discussion came from a hearing with the Board of Directors of the Association of European Journalists Graphics (APGE) at Zarzuela Palace in Madrid.
Roberto González Cerecedo, the chairman of APGE, exposed the Crown Princely couple to government initiatives and programs to promote the importance of journalism in the graphical access to information and knowledge of citizens.
During this meeting, Letizia took the time to speak out on privacy issues. Letizia admitted that since becoming a Princess she has a different view on the topic than she had as a journalist. Felipe confirmed that he and his sisters were able to grow up without the media pressure that can makes his childrens’ lifes more difficult these days, in particular the use of cell phone cameras.
The Princess admitted that being a member of the royal family is to target the media, but still claimed their right to privacy. Letizia has revealed that she and Felipe try to be more like a family, such as going to the park with their two daughters, Leonor and Sofia, and do some shopping in department stores.
Crown Princess Letizia was a broadcast journalist for Spanish TV before marrying the heir to the throne in May 2004.
