Thursday saw the family of Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece gather in his homeland for the baptism of his fifth child, Aristidis Stavros. This, despite the boy was born in late June 2008.
It is not known why Pavlos and his wife, Marie-Chantal, took so long to baptize their son. It is possible that the baby’s grandfather, ex-King Constantine of Greece’s heart surgery in June prevented an earlier christening.
But either way, it was a delightful event for not only the Greek royals, but their royal relatives as well, particularly their Spanish kin. Queen Sofia of Spain – who is Constantine’s sister – and her two daughters, Infantas Elena and Cristina, were at the baptism.
The event itself took place at the Aghioi Anargiroi monastery, near the town of Ermioni, in southern Greece. Aristidis Stavros is the second child of Pavlos and Marie-Chantal to be baptized on Greek soil. The elder three children were initiated into the Greek Orthodox religion in London, where the exiled Greek royal family lives.
Crown Prince Pavlos married Marie-Chantal Miller in 1995. Their five children include: Maria-Olympia, Constantine, Achileas, Odysseas and Aristidis.
