Spain’s Crown Prince Felipe was at the inauguration of Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa on Monday. The heir to the Spanish throne spent a total of 24 hours in Quito for the ceremonies. It is his duty to attend the inauguration of Latin American leaders, since he is Spain’s official representative for the inaugurations of the Iberian American Presidents.

Upon arriving in the South American country on Sunday, Felipe met with Correa, was preparing to celebrate his second presidential term. The President gave the Prince his condolences over the recent ETA bombings in Mallorca, where the Spanish royal family is currently vacationing. President Correa also expressed his solidarity with the Spanish people.
During their meeting, the two men also discussed ways to strengthen alliances between their countries.
Later on, Felipe met Spain’s ambassador to Ecuador, Federico Torrez. The next morning, he had breakfast with Ecuador’s business leaders.
The actual inauguration came later, at the National Assembly. Crown Prince Felipe was one of several representatives of the Spanish speaking world at the event. The rest include Evo Morales, Raul Castro, and ousted Honduran leader, Manuel Zelaya.
After Correa’s inauguration, Crown Prince Felipe went to a luncheon given by Correa’s guests. Afterwards, he returned to Spain.
