Sunday, September 6th saw Japan’s little Prince Hisahito celebrate his third birthday. The first male member of the Japanese Imperial family to be born in 41 years is said to be growing in good health.
According to the Imperial Household Agency, the only son of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko is learning how to feed and clothe himself. He also likes to play ball, and ride his tricycle, as taught by big sister, Princess Kako.
Hisahito is nicknamed Yuyu and Yuchan by his parents.
The little prince is third in line to the Chrysanthemum Throne, after his father and uncle, Crown Prince Naruhito. This is because of Japan’s male-only succession law. Naruhito has a daughter, Aiko, who would’ve been the heir if the succession laws were modernized.
