Next month, a biography about Sweden’s future Queen would be published. Victoria – Queen of the Time was written by Crown Princess Victoria’s private history tutor, Herman Lindqvist, and it chronicles her life, her search for love and her fiancee, Daniel Westling’s secret illness.
When Victoria’s engagement was announced this February, Sweden was overjoyed. The press conference displayed their princess’ ecstasy over finding love in gym owner Daniel Westling. But what many did not know was that Westling was suffering from a non-hereditary kidney disease, and during the conference, he was not feeling well at all. Westling’s blood had sharply deteriorated, according to Lindqvist, and could not make it to an engagement dinner with the royal family.
But luckily, a kidney transplant took place in May, and now Daniel is feeling good again – good enough to be the groom to the only female heir apparent in the world.
But Lindqvist’s book also reveals the King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were not sure Daniel would make a good husband for Victoria.
“They wanted to make it clear that I would get the best possible support and backing for my job now and in the future. How could they know that Daniel could give me that? How would he do it?” the book says.
Daniel certainly can, since he has won the blessing of the King and Queen.
In addition, the book asks what Victoria would want in 10 years. The answer? “That we have formed a family, that I look forward to.”
