Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik added to his long list of titles on Friday. He was voted as the representative of Denmark for the International Olympic Committee. Frederik began his campaign to be a member on 2006, and that effort has paid off.

With 77 votes – nine against and six not voting at all – the Crown Prince was one of the six new members of the IOC. The rest include Richard Peterkin from St. Lucia, Habu Ahmed Gumel form Nigeria, Habib Abdul Nabi Macki from Oman, Lydia Nsekere from Burundi and Göran Petersson from Sweden.
At the same time, Frederik joins an exclusive club of royal IOC members. That list has Prince Albert II of Monaco, Princess Anne of the United Kingdom, Princess Haya of the United Arab Emirates, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, and finally, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.
Nils Nygaard, President of the Danish Olympic Committee, congratulated the future King of Denmark on his election win.
“With the Crown Prince’s members of the IOC, Denmark can ensure continued influence in the Olympic movement so I’m both delighted and pleased not only on behalf of the Crown Prince but also for the Danish sporting movement,” Nygaard said.
Crown Prince Frederik is only the eighth Dane to be an IOC member since its inception in 1894.
