People living in Skaugum, Norway got a surprise this morning as they saw their future King and Queen selling coffee, cakes, homemade juice and other breakfast items by the roadside outside of Oslo.
Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, along with their children, relatives and friends, were raising money for the charity, CARE, which Haakon is a patron of, and a television campaign to help women worldwide.
“This year’s television action focused on helping all women in poor countries get the opportunity to fulfill their potential. It focused on gender equality in general. It has been shown that it gives a good effect that supports women, then go for a larger share to include family, education and health. To give to women is an effective way of providing assistance,” Haakon told reporters.
The group began at 11:30 in the morning, local time, and by the time reporters showed up, had collected 5,000 kroner, or nearly $900.
The local people were very pleased with the couple’s fund raising technique.
“Very positive that the crown prince couple do this, “said Ellen Hofvind of Upper Frydendal.
