During his brief visit to Japan, U.S. President Barack Obama had lunch with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at their palace in Tokyo. It was the first meeting between the President and the Imperial couple.
Upon meeting with them, President Obama bowed before the Emperor. It is not known yet why he did it.
U.S. Presidents are not supposed to bow before anyone.
Obama caused a stir back in April when he was filmed bowing to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. The White House said he was simply bending down because he was taller than the King.
