Prince William is a “Redneck,” Says Pink

The U.S. pop singer, Pink, is publicly badmouthing Britain’s Prince William for his stance on hunting animals. She recently told music bible, Q magazine, that she wrote the second in line to the throne a letter criticizing him for the blood-sport.

To her surprise, William responded.

“I wrote to him to protest about fox hunting and I figured he would be this stuffy, privileged a**hole. But he’s like a red-neck from the south,” Pink said.

“If you’re brought up shooting and hunting animals, if you really think it’s second nature and you’re blasting away then it’s hard to see the other point of view. You need educating.”

The singer’s letter to the Prince was in response to his request that she perform for his 21st birthday back in 2003. Pink refused and instead wrote to William demanding to know why he hunts foxes.

It is not known when exactly Prince William finally responded to the singer or what he actually said.

Pink, who is a member of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), also wrote to William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, asking her to get rid of the bearskins worn by palace guards and replace them with fake fur, designed by Stella McCartney. The Queen has yet to answer Pink’s request.

“To be truthful I was really surprised I didn’t get a reply to that one. I wasn’t just writing in and complaining, and it certainly was not a publicity stunt,” said Pink.

“I actually proposed a plan. Stella McCartney had designed these replacement hats for the guards using fake fur. I felt we were solving the problem for her and offering a viable solution. But she never wrote back. Maybe she doesn’t have any of my stuff on her iPod.”

Emperor Akihito to Meet Chinese Vice President

Usually, requests to meet with Emperor Akihito take a month to process as they must be approved by the Imperial Household Agency. But this time, it has taken about two weeks for the request to go through – mainly because Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama made a special request for the meeting to happen quickly.

“It would be important for the friendly relationship between Japan and China, so I asked the head of the Imperial Household Agency to do the favor if the emperor’s health condition permits,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano told reporters.

However, there are some in Japan who are concerned. They see this as using the Emperor for political purposes, something Akihito is supposed to stay out of.

Upon taking office in September, Hatoyama pledged stronger ties with the rest of Asia.

East Asia still has bitter memories over the treatment by Japanese imperialism before and during World War I.

Scandinavia’s Royal Heirs at Copenhagen Climate Change Summit

The three heirs to the Scandinavian thrones were present this weekend at the UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen. Together, they participated in the opening of the Bright Green Expo, where the world’s largest companies discussed eco-friendly solutions and renewable energy technologies they could use.

Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik, Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway gave their thoughts and experiences on the environment, which all three said needs to be taken care of.

“Combating climate change is both a fun, exciting and long struggle. We can see that the technology is on display here today. At the same time it provides the opinion to counter climate change,” said Crown Prince Haakon.

The three royals together have gone on expeditions to the Arctic area in 2008 and 2009 to see firsthand how climate change is affecting the area. However, as the Danish Crown Prince pointed out, seeing how the natives are now living with the changes gives a glimpse on how the how world can adapt.

“They have through time adapted to the changes, and it would still make them. It gives me hope and shows that it makes sense to make a difference,” said Frederik.

The Swedish Crown Princess also talked about how her father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, has long been speaking out on environmental issues.

“In the beginning he felt quite alone on the subject, but today he feels that no one listens to him because everyone is talking about climate,” she said.

Haakon, Frederik and Victoria all said that it is the parents responsibility to teach their child to take better care of the planet.

“One need not let the water run continuously while brushing teeth,” Crown Prince Frederik reminded those in attendance.

When asked if the three royals will be going on another expedition anytime soon, neither could give an answer. This is mainly because Victoria will be getting married in June 2010.
