Danish Royals Hold Another Gala

Hanne Juul/BILLED-BLADET

Wednesday evening saw Danish Queen Margrethe II host the Cour Ball, in which the members of Denmark’s government, Parliament and those who represent the country in the European Union are invited. All the members of the Danish royal family attended the gala, including the Crown Princely couple, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte, the Queen’s sister. The event was held at Christianborg Palace.

The royal women dressed glamorously, complete with sashes and tiaras. Crown Princess Mary wore the same tiara she wore when she married Crown Prince Frederik in 2004. She also wore a deep blue sleeveless dress plus her usual fur shawl.

Princess Marie wore a one shouldered pale blue gown with gold embroidery in the front, as well as a fur shawl.

Norway’s Royals Get YouTube Channel

Following in the footsteps of the British and Dutch royal families, the royal house of Norway have set up their own YouTube channel.

This goes along with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Twitter and Facebook page.

There are a few videos up already, such as that of Haakon in Davos. If the Norwegians are going to do it like their British and Dutch counterparts, they would add file footage to their channel.

With so many royals setting up Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts these days, one wonders who would be next?

A New Job for Prince Constantijn

Holland’s Prince Constantijn has been promoted. The youngest son of Queen Beatrix will be working full-time for EU Dutch Commissioner Neelie Kroes’s Digital Agenda.  The Prince was hired due to his experience with telecommunications and IT.

Currently, Constantijn works for the American research institute RAND, as head of the Information Policy and Economics department. He recently published a report “Towards a Digital Europe, To Serve the Citizens”. In it he describes how the EU can help people shop online through international websites more easily, and how the government can offer more services on the Internet.

During the late 1990s, the Prince worked for the Cabinet of former EU Commissioner Hans van den Broek.

Constantijn is not the first royal to be hired by Kroes. His cousin, Prince Jaime de Bourbon Parma, used to work as an expert in
conflict management and is presently working with the UN.

Prince Constantijn will be begin his position on February 10th.
