Princess Madeleine Attends International Red Cross Ball

All Over Press

Princess Madeleine of Sweden made an appearance Saturday night at the 54th International Red Cross Ball in Palm Beach, Florida.

Held at real estate mogul Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, it is believed Trump himself invited the Princess to add a little flair to the evening.

“It’s a great thing for the Red Cross to have a real princess; she always pulls in more money,” a source said, according to Svensk Damtidning.

Madeleine was one of the about 400 guests who paid $1,000 to get into the private event. She spent the night mingling and being photographed with politicians, celebrities and powerful businessmen from Liechtenstein, Monaco, Mexico, Netherlands, Barbados, South Africa and Hungary.

Princess Caroline Opens Children’s Psychiatric Center

On Friday, Princess Caroline was in Nice, France to inaugurate a psychiatric medical center for children, known as the Costanzo Center, which is part of the Lenval Foundation.

Originally established in 2009, the center was located at Costanzo George Street City. But on Friday, it moved to a brand new building, located at No. 84 boulevard Delfino at heart of Riquier.

Caroline was with the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi and the President of the General Council, Eric Ciotti as they opened the psychiatric center. It was Ciotti who said the children are in “more than others, need the commitment and loving gaze of the community “.

“We must devote our generosity and our heart to them there,” said Estrosi. “We have no right to leave them on the roadside, we must give them every chance to become citizens as others, to found a family in turn.”

On Caroline’s part, she pulled the string to remove the French flag to reveal a plaque on the wall which commemorated this inauguration.

It is believed that Monaco’s Princess Grace Foundation made a contribution to the center, since its a medical foundation that is involved in causes not just in Monaco, but throughout France.

What’s Going on With Princess Madeleine?

Sweden’s Princess Madeleine has been in the news this past week for various reasons – ranging to legal matters to fashion to even her private life which appears to be heating up.

WireImage/All Over Press/FILE

Earlier this month, the Princess was filmed with another man at a New York City bar. Video showed her lightly rubbing his arm at one point while they ordered drinks. Speculation spread like wild fire that Madeleine, who broke off her engagement to lawyer Jonas Bergström last year after he cheated on her, had found love again.

On Sunday, Swedish tabloids published photos of the Princess and her significant other entering his Manhattan apartment Thursday night and leaving it Friday morning. It is safe to say Madeleine has moved on from her broken heart.

The man she is linked to is 36 year old Chris O’Neill, who is a financial adviser and son of socialite Eva O’Neill. Since the video was shown on Swedish news websites, O’Neill has gone from a local celebrity to a worldwide one because he is dating one of the most eligible bachelorettes in the world.

Now for some legal issues. In 2009, Princess Madeleine won a libel case in Germany after she sued tabloids for reporting false information about her private life. This week, she received 3.5 million kronor, or $540,000, which will go to charity.

Also for charity, Madeleine designed two pairs of jeans for an American clothing brand, which will be available starting in February. For every 300 kronor made, they will go to World Childhood Foundation, which Madeleine’s mother, Queen Silvia, began to help vulnerable children.

The Princess has been staying in New York for quite sometime and it is unknown when she will return to Sweden. Judging by the way her life is going now, the Big Apple quite suits her.

Saudi King Backs Mubarak

As demonstrations in Egypt intensify, leaders from around the world are speaking out. While most of them are critical of President Hosni Mubarak, the King of Saudi Arabia so far is the only world leader who supports him.

Saudi Arabia’s state run news agency reported that King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud believes the protests are influenced by infiltrators, who were “exploited to spew out their hatred in destruction . . . inciting a malicious sedition” and that outside agitators “infiltrated into the brotherly people of Egypt, to destabilize its security.”

“No Arab or Muslim can tolerate any meddling in the security and stability of Arab and Muslim Egypt by those who infiltrated the people in the name of freedom of expression, exploiting it to inject their destructive hatred,” King Abdullah was quoted as saying.

“As they condemn this, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people and government declares it stands with all its resources with the government of Egypt and its people,” the Saudi agency added.

Reportedly, the King called Mubarak to express his support on Saturday.

King Abdullah is resting in Morocco following back surgery done in New York.

Haakon & Mette-Marit Return from World Trip, go to Davos

Fresh from their two month world trip with their children, Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit are in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in Davos. Before leaving for the Forum, the couple took time to talk about their global journey.

Calling it an “educational trip” for their three children – Marius, 13, Ingrid Alexandra, 7, and Sverre Magnus, 4, – Haakon and Mette-Marit said that the kids did learn to understand that some cultures “live differently than we do at home.”

The Crown Princess said it was a “treasure” to spend so much time with the family. Haakon added that it had been “a lovely experience” to see their children “find new friends and get new perspectives.”

The family of five went to Turkey, Jordan, India, Indonesia and other parts of the world that are being kept under wraps.

When asked if the couple recommend such a trip for other families, Mette-Marit replied that they “have to decide themselves.” She pointed out that she missed her dog and her mother during those two months away.

After their world tour was over, the family stopped over in Switzerland, where Mette-Marit stayed while Haakon took the children home, only to rejoin his wife at the World Economic Forum.

The Crown Prince has participated in the event a few times for the WEF’s Young Global Leaders (YGL) initiative, but this will be the Crown Princess’ first time taking part in Davos. Before, she never accompanied Haakon to Davos, because she didn’t want to go simply as a spouse.

“For me this is very exciting. I have heard so much about this group through the Crown Prince,” said Mette-Marit.

On Thursday, she was at the discussion, “HIV/AIDS: Lessons for the Future” since she is a UNAIDS representative.

Frederik Makes First Appearance Since Twins’ Birth

Royal Press Photo / Starlounge

Nearly three weeks after his wife delivered both a boy and a girl, Crown Prince Frederik resumed his royal duties Thursday when he attended the the EliteForsk conference at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen. He was on hand to give out awards to young scientific researchers for the conference.

The Crown Prince did not speak to press, not even giving them a hint on how the twins and their mother, Crown Princess Mary, are doing. He simply did his work that day. It was noticeable that Frederik looked tired, but then again, he had a cold.

Another that was noticeable was Frederik’s socks. Danish media took note of his black socks which had the Frederik and Mary monogram on them.

The big EliteForsk prize is given to outstanding young researchers (under 45 years) of international excellence. Five awards are distributed for 2010 by awarding in 2011. The prize was first awarded in January 2007 and by including this year’s winners, it has now awarded a total of 27 scientists.

Charlene Appears for Sainte Devote Celebrations

Last night, Monaco honored its patron saint, Sainte Devote, with traditional church services and the lighting of the fishing boat. Prince Albert II and his sister, Princess Caroline were present, as well as his fiancée, Charlene Wittstock, who made her first appearance at the celebrations.

Mass was held at the Church of Sainte Devote where the royal siblings and Charlene genuflected before the Monsignor prior to taking their seats at the church. The mass reflected on the troubles many Christians are facing in the world, particularly in the Middle East.

There was a moment of silence before the service let out and the trio gathered at the shore in front of the fishing boat. Torches in hand, they lit the boat on fire and sent it into the sea.

When she marries Prince Albert this July, Charlene will place her bouquet at the Church of Sainte Devote.

The lighting of the boat comes from the story of the Florentine captain Antinope who was caught stealing the relics of Sainte Devote on the Monegasque beaches. This part of the celebration was started by Prince Louis II in 1924.

King Albert II Allows Mediator to Resign

Another setback for Belgium.

REUTERS/Thierry Roge

Johan Vande Lanotte, who was appointed by King Albert II to mediate between feuding Dutch and French speaking politicians in order to create a government, resigned today from his position.

“The King accepted and will start consultations tomorrow,” the palace said in a statement.

For three months, Vande Lanotte has tried to get lawmakers to reach an agreement to form a government. Belgium has been without one since elections in June. This is the longest the country has ever faced such a crisis.

Vande Lanotte even expressed pessimism at a news conference.

“It was impossible to break the impasse,” Vande Lanotte said. “There is no real perspective of progress.”

“It was not possible to bring the seven parties around the negotiating table.”

Vande Lotte originally requested to resign earlier this month, but King Albert urged him to stay on.

Belgians are getting fed up. Last weekend, about 34,000 citizens marched through Brussels demanding for a government to be formed.
