Although she was absent from this year’s Nobel Prize ceremony, Princess Madeleine of Sweden was present for this year’s annual Swedish Royal Academy meeting on Monday at the Stock Exchange. She was there with the rest of her family, with the exception of Prince Carl Philip.

Founded in 1786 by King Gustav III, the Swedish Royal Academy is a cultural institution meant to promote Swedish language and literature.
The tabloid, Expressen, noticed a frosty relationship between Princess Madeleine and her father, King Carl XVI Gustaf during the meeting. Supposedly, she is angry with the King that he forced her to end her engagement to former fiancée Jonas Bergström after a Norwegian model went public about her affair with Bergström
Expressen is also reporting Madeleine is not on the royal calendar of events in the coming months.
But rival newspaper, Aftonbladet, says the Princess has put behind her break up with her fiancée, and may stay in Stockholm in for a long while.

The couple were engaged to be married in August 2009, but ended their seven year relationship this past April after a Norwegian woman came forward saying she had a one-night stand with Bergström.
“What I went through was very private, and that everything was so out there made it a very difficult period in my life,” Madeleine said.
She then left Sweden to live in New York City, where she currently works for World Childhood Foundation, a charity her mother, Queen Silvia started.
“It was nice to leave Sweden just then. I had already earlier wondered about maybe moving to New York, so it followed naturally to move here,” the Princess said.
Madeleine sporadically returned to Sweden, particularly for the wedding of her older sister, Crown Princess Victoria – whom she credits for helping her during that period.
The Princess also told the newspaper she will not be attending the Nobel Prize ceremony next month, which the royal family usually attends. But she will be back for Christmas.
Madeleine was also in Stockholm Friday for a forum on children’s rights.

Just days after saying that Princess Madeleine and fiancée Jonas Bergstrom were still a couple, the Swedish royal court announced Saturday that the couple have ended their engagement and have gone their separate ways.

“After careful consideration, Princess Madeleine and Mr Jonas Bergström made a joint decision to go seperate ways,” the statement says. “They have come to the conclusion that the best thing for them is that they move in opposite directions.”
“Princess Madeleine and Mr Jonas Bergström appeal to the media to show them respect and consideration for this decision. They need peace and quiet in this difficult situation. Extreme media coverage will not ease the situation for them.”
“We ask for your understanding that no further statements will be provided.”
This announcement comes after two months of rumors that there was trouble in the relationship. The couple had not been seen together in public in months. Madeleine reportedly had moved out of the pair’s apartment and there were allegations that Jonas was unfaithful to his fiancée.
The Princess and Bergström began dating several years ago and announced their engagement in August 2009, just six months after Madeleine’s older sister, Crown Princess Victoria announced hers.
There have always been reports and gossip about the couple having difficulty in their relationship. Supposedly, Jonas proposed to Madeleine in June 2009 in an effort to save it.
Even Queen Silvia admitted that there would be no marriage this year between Madeleine and Jonas. Having the Queen say so was a big statement.
Many royal watchers believed something was up with the constant reports of the engagement possibly ending. Sadly, that does seem to be the case.
It would be unfortunate to see Princess Madeleine alone at her sister’s June wedding. Many royal watchers hoped to see her with Jonas as a preview to her own wedding.
The spokeswoman for the Swedish royal court spoke out against tabloid reports on Princess Madeleine’s relationship with fiancée Jonas Bergström yesterday. Nina Eldh told Aftonbladet, “Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergström are still a couple and now they need to be left alone.”

“I would thus strongly appeal for respect and consideration towards Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergström. Right now, they need peace and quiet. Extreme media coverage will not ease the situation for them and their families,” she said.
Stories have been swirling like wildfire about their relationship being on the rocks. The two have not been seen in public together in months, and did not go skiing together at their favorite Swiss resort. They also did not attend Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II’s 70th birthday celebrations along with the rest of Madeleine’s family.
Even worse, a Norwegian model, Tora Uppstrøm Berg, age 21, has come forward saying she had a one-night stand with Bergström one year ago.
“I had an affair with Madeleine’s fiancée last year – we were intimate,” she told a Norwegian tabloid.
About a week ago, Queen Silvia admitted that her daughter and Jonas will not be getting married this year. That fueled the speculations that all was not well with the couple.
But with the royal court stepping in and telling the tabloids to back off, perhaps whatever was wrong with them – if there ever was – it has cooled down, and maybe they will marry after all.
Rumors have been circulating for several weeks that all is not well with Sweden’s Princess Madeleine and her fiancè Jonas Bergstrom. Tabloids, such as Expressen, are reporting that the couple no longer live together and that the strain of waiting until after Crown Princess Victoria gets married has put a damper on their relationship.

The tabloid also points out that Madeleine and Jonas have not been seen in public together in a long time, unlike Victoria and her husband-to-be, Daniel Westling.
Additionally, the Princess recently went skiing in Switzerland without Jonas – even though that is favorite vacation spot for them.
According to rumors, the couple’s relationship was falling apart last year and the two went to the Italian island of Capri and mend things. That was when Jonas proposed to Madeleine, much to her surprise. Supposedly, Jonas felt it was his last chance to save his relationship with her.
Keep in mind all these reports are from tabloids, who usually are looking to sell papers. Even more so, a few weeks ago Jonas himself spoke to rival paper Aftonbladet and said, “There is no crisis. Madeleine and I are fine.”
But the rumors keep spreading to beyond Swedish borders. The latest edition of Spain’s ¡Hola! published an article about the supposedly troubled relationship. It is only a matter of time before other foreign media pick up the story.
The Princess will be visiting the United States in April and in May. If her fiancèe does not stop by for at least a brief visit, then it would fuel speculation that this relationship won’t have a happy ending.
Sweden and Norway are still celebrating their annual Nobel Prize ceremonies. There was a star studded concert in Oslo, and a gala banquet in Stockholm in honor of this year’s laureates.

First, Norway. A concert was held in honor of U.S. President Barack Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Hosted Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, the artists at this event included Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean. At one point during his performance, Wyclef Jean climbed to where Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette Marit and her son, Marius, were sitting in the audience. Jean shook hands with the royals and went on singing from where he was.
Over to Sweden where their royals’ love of dressing up took place once again for a gala banquet at the royal palace. Known as the King’s Dinner, it was where the royal family personally congratulates the Nobel laureates on their winning.
Crown Princess Victoria stole the show once again with her glamorous gown and tiara. But sadly, she was not accompanied by fiance, Daniel Westling, who was told by doctors to avoid this event due to his kidney transplant earlier this year.
But younger sister Madeleine was happily on the arm of her fiance, Jonas Bergstrom. She also looked stunning in her gown, which was worn to last year’s Nobel Prize ceremony, minus the bordello this time.

Imagine being in Stockholm Thursday and Friday. One would’ve seen a sight often seen at royal weddings, funerals and coronations! It was the gathering of nine royal women, plus two royal men to-be, coming together for the 20th anniversary of the United Nation’s Child Convention.

Queen Silvia of Sweden brought together the Queens of Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, as well as the Crown Princesses of Norway and Denmark, and finally the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg to mark this event. All of them have to some degree worked for the rights of children, particularly Silvia, with her World Childhood Foundation.
The royal women first met at the royal palace to discuss children’s rights. The Convention, signed by every country in the world besides Somalia and the United States, is to ensure children’s safety and welfare – both civil, political, economic, cultural and social rights.
After that, they went to the children’s center in Stockholm as part of the Convention’s anniversary.
Later on, the ladies held a conference, which also featured Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine.
In the evening, there was a gala at Berwaldhallen. This time, Victoria and Madeleine’s fiancees, Daniel Westling and Jonas Bergstrom attended. This was the first time either man officially attended a royal event.

It was announced yesterday that Princess Madeleine and her fiance, Jonas Bergstrom, will live in Villa Beylon once they are married.
The pink palace is close to Haga Palace, where Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling will live after their June 2010 wedding. It is also close to Jonas’ parents in Djursholm, Sweden.
Built in 1803, Villa Beylon is the former home of Madeleine’s aunt, Princess Christina. Ambassadors and courtiers have also stayed there. It has 12 bedrooms and 500 square meter large.
Since the Princess has a knack for interior decorating, its being speculated she will have a grand fun time designing her new home when the time comes!
The two Princesses of Sweden took a trip down the aisle Saturday – at a friend’s wedding that is.
Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine went to the wedding of their friends, Jan Dinkelspiel and Ellen Stendahl. The two sisters were dressed in beautiful evening gowns, as it is customary at Scandinavian weddings for the women to really dress up.
With them were their fiances, Daniel Westling and Jonas Bergstrom. Both men were looking dashing in their tuxedoes. Daniel also looked very healthy following his kidney transplant in late May.
While walking into the church, the Swedish media swarmed the two princesses. Crown Princess Victoria smiled brightly and even gave a little wink to the photographers.
Also at the wedding was Prince Nikolaos, the son of ex-King Constantine of Greece. His longtime girlfriend, Tatiana Blatnik, was one of the bridesmaids.

King Carl XVI Gustaf took his three children, and his two future sons-in-law for a walk through a forest near Solliden Palace on the island of Oland earlier today. He allowed the media to photograph the 50 minute walk.
But this wasn’t for a summer photoshoot. It was done to show there is not sibling rivalry between Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine.
The Swedish media often portrays the two sisters as rivals. This speculation has increased with the recent announcement of Madeleine’s engagement to Jonas Bergstrom. Some wondered if the announcement directed attention away from Victoria’s upcoming nuptials to Daniel Westling, thus “stealing” her happiness.
It is understood that King Carl Gustaf despises reports that his two daughters are at each other’s throats. That is why he arranged today’s documented walk. It was the first time the King allowed the media to photograph a private moment with his family.
The King walked in front, with his three children – included the single Prince Carl Phillip – and their fiancees behind him. It was a simple yet assertive move to show that despite what the press claims, the Swedish royal family is a close one.
